Contact lenses tips & advice

Below are a number of tips on using contact lenses or eye accessories like those supplied by EyesBright.com.

  • Our coloured lenses do not correct defective sight. They are for aesthetic purposes only. If you believe you need corrective lenses or glasses, consult a qualified optician.
  • Our fashion contact lenses are not suitable for extended or overnight wear. They do not allow enough oxygen to permeate the cornea and must be removed before sleeping.
  • Never wear your contact lenses if you are suffering from eye irritation or any type of infection.
  • Keep your nails short. A long nail can tear your lens or scratch your eye and increase your susceptibility to infection.
  • Some medications – including the contraceptive pill – can reduce your tolerance to contact lenses. If in doubt about your suitability, check with your doctor.
  • Many of our customers buy lenses for special occasions such as parties. Parties can be smoky environments, and smoke can irritate your lenses by drying out your eyes. We recommend purchasing a bottle of rewetting drops (they must be specifically formulated for contact lenses wearers) that you can take to the party and use if your eyes become too dry.
  • Sometimes soft coloured contacts can turn inside out during the insertion process, but it can be hard to tell if they have done so due to the shape. Hold the lens on your finger and squeeze the base between opposing fingers. If the edges curve outwards, it’s inside out.
  • A wet contact lens can easily slip off your finger onto the floor. If this happens, don’t even think about putting it in your eye. Disinfect it over night to ensure all pathogens are removed.
  • You can plan to drive home from your party, but you may end up sleeping on the sofa or floor. Take your contact lens solution with you to ensure you’ll be able to remove and disinfect your lenses.
